Lake Wateree – Saturday, December 2nd 2016
The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted it’s 4th tournament of the 2016-2017 season on Lake Wateree Saturday, December 2nd.
It was a cold start Saturday morning, but the sign-in table was open at 5am as scheduled. The line to the boat ramp was past the gate at the state park due to boats from a crappie tournament launching at the same time. Some of the regular faces were missing this week, but we had 6 new teams join us for the first time. We appreciate everyone for coming out and joining us. We also streamed our weigh-in from Facebook live, so be sure to go back and check it out. We had a record number 37 boats and 88 anglers competing for a share of the $3,816 purse!
A thick fog hovered over the lake making the visibility extremely low. Everyone used precaution and safely navigated to their first spot without an incident. The overall bite was great with teams weighing in many fish in the 20s and 30s. In fact, the big fish winners were not in the top 3 finishing teams, so it shows how many quality fish were caught by all teams.
In the end, Clay Henderson, Jason Henderson, David Henderson, and Landen Loftin of Team Jamie K Outdoors came out on top with an impressive 87.00lbs stringer. They collected $1,890 for their first place finish. Additionally, they added another $200 in sponsor bonus money. $100 came from Alan from Fish Bite Rod Holders, and another $100 came from getting bait from Jamie K Outdoors. Their total payday was a whopping $2,090! The newcomers Mike Durham and Brad McCall of Team Blind Squirrel came in 2nd place with a 3-fish stringer weighing 82.50lbs and collected $945. Also, another set of new anglers Jared Powell and Ryan Young of Team Split Decisions came in 3rd place with a 80.20lb stringer and earned $315. Rodney Locklear and Glen Lovin of Team Can’t Get Right had big fish of the tournament with a 42.20lb blue and collected $466. Sam Williams and Amy Williams was less than a pound behind with an impressive 41.60lb blue and earned $200.
The season’s points race is tightening up, and we’ve had our 2nd lead change of the year. The Henderson boys of Team Jamie K Outdoors are you new points leader! A lot of other positions changed, so be sure to check out the latest standings.
