Lake Wylie – October 9th 2016
The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted it’s 2nd tournament of the 2016-2017 season on Lake Wylie October 9th. Due to terrible weather and dangerous lake conditions from Hurricane Matthew, we moved the tournament to Sunday instead of Saturday. What a surprising difference one day can make because the weather was near perfect for anglers during the tournament. Alongside our regular tournament events, the club also raffled many prizes in support of the Lake Wylie Children’s Charity benefit. We very much appreciate all the teams that sold raffle tickets, and we would like to thank our sponsors for donating an amazing collection of prizes. A very special thanks to David Holt for donating the Luke Kuechly signed Panthers jersey, and a big round of applause to Jimmy Harbert for personally collecting tons of gift cards from local restaurants and businesses.
It turned out to be a beautiful day on the water with bright, sunny skies throughout the day. The wind was calm during the morning but did pick up as the day progressed. A total of 26 teams and 62 anglers competed for a share of the $2,628 purse!
The overall bite was great! Many teams weighed in one or two fish in the 20lb range and stated that their overall catch reached the double digits. In the end, Brian Snipes, Bubba Branch, and Mason Brakefield of Team Tightline came out on top with a total weight of 91.25lbs and collected $1,300 for their 1st place finish. Additionally, they collected 3 out of the 4 sponsorship bonuses; a $100 cash from Fish Bite Rod Holders, $100 gift certificate to Big Cat Fever, and a $25 gas card from Kangaroo Express. Gary Morton, Caleb Sturgis, and Gary Morton Sr. of Team Good Times came in 2nd place with an impressive 3 fish stringer of 75.30lbs and collected $648. With less than a half pound difference, Kevin Godbee, Tim Doster, Crystal Godbee, Martin Beer, and Aiden Godbee finished in 3rd place with a total weight of 75.15lbs and collected $216. Sam Williams and Amy Williams of Team Whisker Gitters had big fish of the tournament with a nice 39.00lb blue and collected $328. Jeff Manning and Michael Paciocco of Team Reelin’ the Blue had 2nd big fish with a 35.75lb flathead. Congratulations to Brian, Bubba, and Mason for winning the second tournament of the Southeastern Catfish Club’s 2016-2017 season! We’d also like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting the club members and providing amazing giveaways at the raffle. We look forward to seeing everyone on Fishing Creek on November 5th!
