Lake Wateree – August 5th 2017

The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted its final tournament of the Slimy Summer Nights Series on Lake Wateree Saturday, August 5th.

Tournament registration opened at 4pm sharp, and mother nature decided to cool everyone off with a brief shower right as the first teams signed up.  A record number of 16 new teams joined us for the first time, and we had a record number of 47 teams enter to compete for the largest purse in club history: $5,320!

If the brief shower at registration was any indication of things to come, anglers fishing in the middle to upper portions of the lake were in for a rude awakening.  A large shower band rolled through the area around 9:30pm and was followed by another pounding 90 minutes later.  Anglers fishing in the lower part of the lake reported not getting a single drop.  The bite report varied from team to team.  Some teams reported catching good numbers but not being able to find the big fish while other teams struggled to meet the 3 fish limit.  Looking back at last year’s results, it was certainly much lower in total weights and big fish.  In the end, we had a first time winner for the 11th consecutive tournament!  Newcomers Jeff Outz and Kenny Sudderht of Team Adversity traveled all the way from Franklin County, Georgia and took home 1st place with a total weight of 83.25lbs racking up $2,640.  They also tied for Big Fish of the tournament with a 33.20lb blue but won the tiebreaker with the most total weight, so they took home the 1st place cash of $644 bringing their total winnings to a whopping $3,284!

Tournament trail vets John Terry and Jason Knight of Team Trophy Hunter finished in 2nd place with a total weight of 79.60lbs and collected an impressive $1,320.  They also tied for Big Fish of the tournament with a 33.20lb blue but collected the $276 2nd place money after losing the tiebreaker.  John and Jason weren’t to upset with their total earnings of $1,596.  Ray and Tracey Waldrop of Team Brown Dog finished in 3rd place with a 66.70lb stringer and earned $440.  Since we had a record number of boats, we decided to pay out a 4th spot.  Lee Hardee and Josh Coggins of Team Carolina Blues finished 4th with a 66.50lb stringer and collected $120.

Congratulations to Jeff Outz and Kenny Sudderht for winning the 2nd Slimy Summer Nights tournament of 2017 and their 1st on the Southeastern Catfish Club’s trail!

We’d like to thank all of the new teams that joined us.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season opener on Lake Wateree September 9th!

Tight Lines!
