Lake Wylie – September 8th 2018
The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted its 1st tournament of the 2018-2019 season on Lake Wylie Saturday, September 8th. Registration started at 5am sharp, and several teams were already launched and ready to sign-in. Folks knew it was going to be a hot day with forecasts predicting temps in the low 90s, but it didn’t stop teams from coming out in full force. 48 teams and 111 anglers were set to kick-off the first season and compete for their share of the $4,600 purse!
The September tournament is right on the tail-end of pleasure boat season, and with forecasts in the low 90s, teams were sure to battle with the boat traffic. Teams that had a chance to pre-fish reported a very slow bite throughout the week, and some even reported getting skunked on multiple trips. The total weights at the end proved it was tough day. A silver-lining though was a new rule change on Lake Wylie where teams only had to bring two fish to the scales. Needless to say, the end results were going to be interesting. When it was all said and done, Yadkin Mastercatters trail vets Ken Frost and Flathead Bill Sutton of Team Cat Baby brought home their first win on the tournament trail with an impressive 63.50lb stringer and collected a whopping $2,265! They also had Big Fish of the tournament with a 38.40lb blue and collected another $605 bringing their total earnings to $2,870!
Jacob Williams, Frank Wilson, and Lee Cowan of Team Bluehead finished in 2nd place with 49.75lbs and collected $1,135. They also had 2nd Big Fish of the tournament with a 33.95lb blue and earned another $260 bringing their total payday to $1,395! Right on their heels were Brian Snipes and Bubba Branch of Team Tightline with a 43.65lb stringer. They finished in 3rd place and collected $380.
Congratulations to Ken Frost and Flathead Bill Sutton of Team Cat Baby on their first win on the SCC trail!
