Lake Wylie – May 13th 2017
The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted its 9th and final tournament of the 2016-2017 season on Lake Wylie Saturday, May 13th, and a new point champion would be crowned at the end of the day!
Even though signup started an hour earlier than usual, several teams were ready to get things started at 4am sharp. Rain hit the area for two days leading up to Saturday, and temperatures dropped to the mid fifties in the early morning hours giving way to clearer skies in the late afternoon. The blast-off horn sounded at 6am sharp, and 30 teams raced to their first spot hoping to take home a portion of the $3,060 purse!
For the 9th consecutive tournament of the 2016-2017 season, we had a first time season winner! Club veterans Terrence Springs and Jeff Smith of Team S&S Xpress took home the gold when they brought a 85.46lber stringer to the scales and collected $1,512. Their massive 41.49lb flathead was 2nd big fish of the tournament and added another $160 to their total. Their payday didn’t stop there. They collected a $100 bonus from Fish Bite Rod Holders and a $100 gift certificate to Big Cat Fever bringing their total payday to a whopping $1,872!
Evan Martin and Larry Godwin finished in 2nd place with a total weight of 73.11lbs and collected $756. They had Big Fish of the tournament with a bruiser 51.44lb blue and collected another $380 bringing their total winnings to $1,136. Benji Brown and Jimmy Holbrook of Team Polekat finished in 3rd place with a 70.78lb stringer and earned $252.

The season’s point race came down to the wire, but Jeff Manning and Michael Paciocco of Team Reelin’ the Blues held onto their lead and are your 2016-2017 Points Champions! Only 8 points back, John Terry of Team Trophy Hunter finished in 2nd place. Congratulations to Jeff and Michael for an impressive season!
