Lake Wylie – June 4th 2016

The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted its inaugural club event Saturday, June 4th by kicking off the Slimy SuJuneSignInmmer Nights series on Lake Wylie.  Anglers were met at the sign-in with clear, sunny skies and temperatures around the mid 80s.  On display at the sign-in table, entrants got to check out the new Rage line from Fish Bite Rod Holders and the Big Cat Fever Medium Heavy rod with Eva Foam.  Pepsi provided ice-cold waters and sodas to help entrants beat the heat, and the club gave away free dip nets and club window decals while supplies lasted.  A total of 21 boats and 53 anglers rounded out the field competing for a share of the $2,320 purse!

It didn’t take long before the dark skies settled in and a couple heavy pours rained down on the competitors, but most of the bad weather passed quickly and was completely gone by 9:00 pm.  In the end, it was very slow bite and unusually low total weights, but Brian Snipes and Steven Adair had the winning stringer with a total weight of 51.65lbs collecting $1,140 for their 1st place finish.  Also, they went 4 for 4 in the sponsorship bonus money receiving an additional $325 in bonus prizes for using Fish Bite Rod Holders, catching their fish on Big Cat Fever Rods, bought bait from Jamie K Outdoors, and purchased gas prior to the tournament at Kangaroo Express.  Less than 2lbs behind, Clay Henderson, Jason Wolfe, and Mike Criminger finished in 2nd with 50lbs for $570, and Josh Coggins, Lee Hardee, and Shane Tuell finished 3rd with 46.50 for $190.

Terrance Springs, TJ Springs, and Jeff Smith had the tournament Big Fish with a blue tipping the scales at 35.80lbs.  Clay Henderson, Jason Wolfe, and Mike Criminger had the tournament’s 2nd Big Fish with a 29.35lb flathead.  It’s important to note that Jeff Smith is the first member of the Southeastern Catfish 30lb club.

Congratulations to Brian Snipes and Steven Adair for winning the very first Southeastern Catfish Club’s tournament!  We’d also like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting the club members and providing amazing giveaways at the raffle.  We look forward to seeing everyone back as well as new competitors at the next event on Lake Wateree in July!
