Lake Wylie – January 7th 2016
The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted it’s 5th tournament of the 2016-2017 season on Lake Wylie Saturday, January 7th, and it will go down in history as the Snow Bowl of 2017!
Winter Storm Helena brought a wintry mix to the area, and some forecasts predicted up to 8″ of snow. Team captains were called during the week to vote on having the tournament as planned or moving it out to the following weekend. The majority voted to keep it as is, and the signup table opened at 5am. 20 teams and 48 tough souls braved the harsh conditions and competed for their share of the $1,980 purse!
After the snow stopped and the skies cleared, Jeff King, Evan Martin, and Larry Godwin of Team Angled Out led the field with a 64.35lb stringer. They collected $972 for their first place finish. Additionally, they added another $200 in sponsor bonus money. $100 came from Alan from Fish Bite Rod Holders, and another $100 gift certificate came from Big Cat Fever. The also had collected another $108 for having 2nd Big Fish with a 24.70lb blue bringing their total payday was a whopping $1,280! Seasoned vets Jeff Manning and Michael Paciocco of Team Reelin’ the Blues came in 2nd place with a 3-fish stringer weighing 56.55lbs and collected $486. Lee Hardee, Josh Coggins, and Anthony Dallas of Team Carolina Blues came in 3rd place with a 54.35lb stringer and earned $162. Strawberry Wooten and Ric Helms of Team Minnow Bucket had big fish of the tournament with a 44.30lb bruiser blue and collected $252.
The season’s points race is heating up, and we’ve had our 3rd lead change of the year. Jeff Manning and Michael Paciocco of Team Reelin’ the Blues are you new points leader! A lot of other positions changed, so be sure to check out the latest standings.
