September 2017 Results

Lake Wateree – September 9th 2017

The Southeastern Catfish Club hosted its 1st tournament of the 2017-2018 season on Lake Wateree Saturday, September 9th.

Tournament registration opened at 5am sharp, and anglers were greeted with temps in the low 50s.  The line to the boat ramp got longer and longer as more teams arrived.  The lake dropped close to 6 feet overnight making the launch difficult, and some teams had to use nearby ramps.  After having a record number of teams in August, we expected a large crowd.  In the end, 46 teams and 94 anglers entered to compete for the $4,433 purse!

It didn’t take long before the calm, brisk morning turned into a blustery, warm day.  By mid-morning the wind picked up around the entire lake, and by the afternoon, winds gusts around 25 mph were reported in the main parts of the lake.  Teams reported catching alot of fish, but the big fish bite was elusive.  In the end, we had a first time winner for the 12th consecutive tournament!  Andy Pitts, Rylan Debruhl, and Chris Debruhl of Team Knot Workin’ took home 1st place with a total weight of 64.35lbs and collected $2,170.  They also had Big Fish of the tournament with a 27.55lb blue and earned another $560 bringing their total winnings to a whopping $2,730!

Tournament trail vets Steve Whitley and Shane Owenby of Team 2nd String finished in 2nd place with a total weight of 59.90lbs and collected an impressive $1,080.  They also had 2nd Big Fish of the tournament with a 26.15lb blue and collected the $238 bringing their total earnings to $1,318.  John Terry of Team Trophy Hunter finished in 3rd place with a 57.40lb stringer and earned $352.

Congratulations to Andy, Rylan, and Chris for winning the 1st tournament of 2017-2018 season and their 1st on the Southeastern Catfish Club’s trail!

We’d like to thank all of the new teams that joined us.  We look forward to seeing everyone next month on Lake Wylie on October 14th!  Remember, we will host our benefit drawing after next month’s tournament.
